Foodie Finds: Buc-ee's

I’m not going to lie… some of my favorite foodie finds are in gas stations. Yes, you read that correctly. Convenience store gems. So when I heard of a mega gas station convenience store in Denton with killer pulled pork sandwiches, of course I had to check it out. What I found was a barbecue counter, kolaches, a wall of jerky, spiced nuts, and more flavors of fudge than I could comprehend. I never thought I’d have fun wandering around a convenience store for a couple of hours. We’re definitely coming back with the kids to try more food.

Some of the things we tried…

Chopped BBQ Beef Brisket Sandwich: I’m a Texas girl who enjoys her brisket. Barbecue sauce runs through my veins. Just kidding. Meat was well-cooked and tender. Perfect ratio of meat to sauce. Definitely my favorite sandwich.

Sliced Sausage BBQ Sandwich: A close second favorite, this sandwich was laced with barbecue sauce, pickles, and minced onions.

Pulled Pork BBQ Sandwich: Sadly, this was probably my least favorite of the three. The meat was a bit dry and I felt like it was lacking in the sauce department. Since I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, I’ll give it another shot next time we visit. It wasn’t terrible… just disappointing.

Hot Apple Pie: A quintessential southern treat, apple pie “pockets” are sold just about anywhere. Most of the time they are pretty crappy, but these were on point with the cinnamon sugar crust full of apple pie yumminess.

Sugared Pecans: Sure, there are also cashews and almonds offered, but pecans have always been my personal favorite. While tasty, they’re very sweet. I’d recommend sharing a pouch.
